Police Court.—Thursday forenoon, William Madigin was brought before the Court, charged with pilfering some books at the late fire. The fact was fully proved, and he was ordered to pay a fine of 10 dollars and cost, amounting to $14 34, or suffer one month's imprisonment in the house of correction. Thomas Sturtevant was also charged with pilfering three boxes of pills, one pot of ointment, and six empty vials. Sturtevant, though a well man, was seen to take the pills by a citizen, by whom he was arrested and taken to jail. The Court found him guilty and plastered him with a fine of 10 dollars and cost, amounting to $13 31, or one month's confinement in the house of correction. Both the above fines were paid. The court in the last case justified the gentleman who arrested the fellow, and said that it was a privilege that every citizen ought to exercise.

Yesterday, Bartholomew Fitzpatrick was brought up, charged with being a disorderly person and committing an assault. It appeared from the evidence, that on Thursday evening Fitzpatrick attempted to take some lead from the door of one of the buildings partly consumed by the late fire—he was forbid by the person who was placed there as a watch, but, persisting in his depredation, was taken to the watch house. The Court ordered him to pay a fine of 50 cents and cost, amounting in all to $4 84.—Courier.
