BROAD RUMOUR

A report has reached us, from Turks-Island, by the way of Savannah, stating that the Epervier sloop of war had been sunk by a British 74 gun ship, in consequence of Lieutenant Commandant Shubrick's having refused to show his commission to the British Commander. There are no particulars to strengthen the credibility of this tale; and there are among other circumstances to discredit it altogether, this fact, that at least ten vessels from Turks-Island have reached the United States within the last ten days, without bringing the least rumour of such an event.
