Full Text

Valencia d'Alcantara, lately taken by Col. Burgoyne, is a frontier town in Spain, not above 60 English miles from Madrid. Thus have the British forces triumphed over their enemies about the same time, both in the old and new world. In order to recover the Havannah, that key to the wealth of Mexico, the Spaniards will doubtless be glad to give up their late pretence of fishing on the banks of Newfoundland, and to grant us a settlement in the bay of Honduras, with the liberty of trading to the main; while some are of opinion that the cession of Florida and the evacuation of Portugal, may further be demanded as equivalents for such an important restitution. Independent of these advantages, the law now given to the Spanish navy is of vast importance to our future quiet, and will require many years to repair.
