Hopes to Bring Rain by Wireless.

Sir Oliver Lodge, England's veteran scientist, knows how to play on the imagination of his countrymen. On his seventy-first birthday he casually announced that much of his time is devoted to wireless research work, but for the time being he shall keep the results of his experiments dark. He believes that there is a great future for broadcasting. Being asked what he thinks is the cause of England's protracted drought—last year was the driest of all recorded English summers, and there has been some duplication of it this year. "The atmosphere wants 'electrifying,' he said. "Some day, I have no doubt, a method will be found to electrify the atmosphere to produce rain at will. It is one of my dreams of the future."
