Huachuca Trooper Killed by Lightning
Trooper Saddler, Fourth cavalry, was struck by lightning and instantly killed while riding near Fort Huachuca Monday. The lightning accompanied a severe storm which had arisen and the trooper was making his way back to the fort. When the bolt struck him eight cartridges in his belt exploded with a report like small arms practice and scattered a miniature hail of bullets, which fortunately did no damage. The horse which the soldier was riding was also killed by the lightning.
