The Vermont State election took place on Tuesday. But few returns have been received. There is again no election of Governor by the people. The following is the aggregate return from 41 towns, arranged in the order, Free Soil, Whig, Democratic:

Shafter. Coolidge. Dillingham. Brainard. Eaton. Dillingham.
3490 5767 2418
1562 6634 3723.
This denotes a falling off of 238 from the loco foco vote, and a gain of 133 on the whig. The Legislature will be, as heretofore, strongly Whig. The returns for Representatives, so far, indicate the election of 43 Whigs, 11 Free Soil men, and 7 Cass men. Last year the same towns returned 33 Whigs, 21 Loco foco es, and 2 Liberty men. Wm. Henry is said to be re-elected to Congress from the 1st District. From the other districts we have no returns.
