"A story prevailed a few days past, that Capt. Dark was dead, and that Lieut. Morgan could not survive, his wounds thought to be mortal.--On Saturday the 24th instant, a number of officers and privates came through our town, belonging to Col. Gibson's 2d regiment of Levies, who informed us that Capt. Dark and Lieut. Morgan were likely to recover (and that without doubt).--That Colonel Dark arrested Major Hamtramack of the 1st United States Regiment, for refusing to go in the rear to relieve the wounded.--That Col. Dark in person (though wounded and much fatigued in the battle) with a party of his own command, went back and brought off a number of the unfortunate, which must otherwise undoubtedly have fell a victim to the torture of the savages."
