Event Details
"Treating" is defined by the Canadian election law as "the giving or providing, or paying wholly or in part any expenses incurred for any meat, drink, refreshment, or provision to or for any person, in order to be elected or for being elected, or for the purpose of corruptly influencing such person, or any other person to give or refrain from giving his vote at such election," and is made punishable by a fine of two hundred dollars. A similar penalty attaches to bribery, which includes the promise of an office, whether the office is intended to be kept or not. Furnishing vehicles to bring voters to the polls is likewise made illegal.
