Full Text

HAVING read a scurrilous piece, emanating from the fertile brains of the publishers of the Newburyport Foolscap, called the Herald, and being the first of the kind we have ever seen during ten years travel with exhibitions, we deem it our duty in justice to ourselves to state the facts and leave the public to judge. When in Newburyport one of these same editors or publishers, presented us with a bill for advertising, amounting to more than twice the sum ever charged us by any printer in the United States. We objected to it, but on his stating he would take no less, we paid it, and then took the liberty to call him a scoundrel; and on his saying that the Newburyport people were willing to pay such prices, we remarked, that if they were willing to submit to such imposition, we were not; and we advised him to be moving, as our foot had a great inclination to approach the unmentionable part of this puppy in human shape. As to the observations on the row, we merely remark, that we should expect such men to uphold rioters on all occasions.
