BUILDING UP THE SOUTH
Governor White, just returning from a visit into the nation's capital and Eastern cities, is enthused over the splendid publicity Mississippi has received through her advertising program, including Mississippi's part in the American Legion Convention in New York. Not a politician and not a hot air merchant, but a sound business man, Governor White has made a fine impression on the nation as a whole during the nearly two years he has been Governor of Mississippi, and has investors of other states interested in Mississippi's opportunities. An important part in the state development is the new program in which the Governor joins with eight other executives of Southern states to offer among the "outstanding advantages" Unlimited raw material Ample power at low rates. Excellent transportation facilities to growing markets. Native born labor--efficient and reasonable. Unexcelled year round moderate climate which makes possible: Lower production costs. Lower construction costs. Lower capital investment And while these nine governors are advertising these things they have set forth as objectives for their states: 1. Proper freight rate differentials as affects the Southeast. 2. Equitable taxation policies. 3. Friendly labor attitude between employer and employee. 4. Cooperation with federal government on proper major policies affecting industrial employment. Due to the fact that Governor White has accomplished so much during the short year and nine months he has been Governor it is reasonable to assume that he will carry the state to great heights before his term expires two years and three months hence.
