A New-Year's Gift.
TO GRAY-HEADED INIQUITY:
THE only notice that I shall stoop to take
of the impotent publication of John
Thomas Ricketts, is to recall to the recol-
lection of the public the printed letter of
recantation written by him to the late firm
of Thompson & Veitch, of this town, in
December 1800, begging pardon for the
wanton and unjustifiable abuse and obloquy
heaped by him on those gentlemen. To
use coarse epithets, even when merited, I
dislike; but Ricketts stands there recorded
not the "honorable" man he is pleased to
signate me, for he then backed out most
pitifully. That blot in his scutcheon is ne-
ver to be erased.
My partner, Mr. Fitzhugh, has gone on
business to the southward. I understand
that it is his intention to apply for redress to
the laws of his country, when the outrage
he committed on that young gentleman will
be decided by a jury--I do not say by the
peers of Ricketts, for they are not to be
found in the district. It is really a ricketty
subject to deal with.
