Full Text

New Orleans, Feb. 1. In the Anderson trial to-day several witnesses testified to rehearsing the testimony which came before the returning board in 1876, and giving their version of the facts of that controversy. It was testified that Anderson was present when the Vernon parish returns were opened and knew their condition. James Pelliter, waiter of the Four Seasons restaurant, testified that Anderson, Wells, Cassanave, Littlefield, McCormick and others dined there; heard Littlefield inquire of Wells what will you do if the democrats carry the state by 10,000 majority? Wells replied that he would give it anyhow to the republicans. Anderson said if the democrats received 100,000 majority he was obliged to give the state to Hayes. This witness testified substantially the same as before the congressional committee.
