Whose Father They Murdered
ST. LOUIS, Oct. 31.—A special to the Republican from Sedalia, Mo., says: Deputy Sheriff Deck of Labette county, Kansas, passed through Sedalia this afternoon en route to Parsons, Kan., with two female prisoners, who are thought to be the notorious Mrs. Bender and Kate Bender. Deck was living in Labette county at the time of the Bender murders and knew the Bender family well. He says there is no doubt he has the right parties. The narrative of their arrest at Ailsa, Mich., as related by him, discloses one of the neatest pieces of detective work ever perpetrated by a woman. The arrest was at the instance of Mrs. Albert McCann of McPherson, Kas. If these parties are convicted she will get $10,000. But it was not money she was after. She worked for revenge. Her father, John W. Sandford, was murdered by the Benders at Windsor, Canada, twenty-four years ago when she was but 4 years old. Recently she got a clue to the murderers while living near them in Kansas, and hunted them down.
