Y.H.S. to Play Ecorse Team
Howard (Bud) Tripp, 20, popular 1939 graduate of Ypsilanti High School, and a student for three years at the Normal College will be honored Thursday night when the High School will dedicate its basketball contest with Ecorse High School in the local gymnasium as Howard Tripp night. 'Bud' was popular with his high school and college. He was a "regular fellow." His school, even though the present students are members of another generation of students is paying tribute to the high standards he set there. "Bud" had volunteered for service with the U. S. armed forces in July and has just been called by his government. But he won't go, at least for a while because he has been stricken with infantile paralysis and is now a patient at University Hospital, Ann Arbor, where he is undergoing treatment for the ailment. Students of his alma mater want to have the honor of dedicating the proceeds of one of their leading basketball contests to Bud's cause. They want to make a contribution to the unusual cost of treating such an ailment. So they are busy selling tickets all over the city for the Ecorse game. Bud had made history in both the high school and varsity basketball floors, so now basketball comes to do him honor. The entire project is being sponsored by the Student Council of the High School. Local citizens have been making contributions to swell the fund and have been advised to contact either Supt. Ernest Chapelle or Principal Norris G. Wiltse. Student ticket rates are the same as usual so that students wishing to make contributions to the Howard Tripp fund may give the difference between the adult price of admission and the cost of their own tickets. A box is to be placed near the ticket window at the school office where tickets may also be purchased.
