Education Curriculum Clinic
At Clark College This Week

A two-day clinic on curriculum problems in higher education, with a view to improving the curriculum at Clark College, will get under way for the faculty, Thursday of this week and will continue through Friday. The clinic, which will be conducted by Dr. W. H. Cowley of Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, will center around the aims of the curriculum, curricular content, structure of subject-matter content and of the curriculum as a whole, teaching curricular content, and examining student mastery of content and achievement of curricular aims. The relation of students, faculty members and administrators will also be discussed.

Dr. Cowley, one of the few professors of higher education in the country, has had a wealth of academic experience and honors. He received his secondary school training at famous Mount Herman school in Massachusetts. His bachelor's degree was awarded by Dartmouth College, and he earned the Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. He holds two Doctor of Laws degrees, one from Hamilton College and another from Saint Lawrence University. Hobart College and Union College have both conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Literature. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity.

At Stanford University Dr. Cowley is recognized as a master teacher and scholar. Into his classes come students from all divisions of the University. Engineering, Business Administration, English, History, Drama, etc., who are interested in teaching the subject matter of their field in colleges. He serves as adviser to students who are studying Public Relations in Higher Education. College and university presidents frequently come to California to study with Dr. Cowley.

He is deeply interested in the field of English, and in creative writing being an author and scientist of some note himself. For a number of years he was on the faculties of Ohio State University and the University of Chicago. In 1938 he was elected President of Hamilton College in New York and remained there until he resigned to accept his Stanford position.

Dr. Cowley will speak to the students at the College Hour, ten o'clock, Thursday morning, May 4.
