JAMES CHILDREN RECEIVE $13,950

W. B. Hart of Fairbury, claim adjuster for the Rock Island railroad, has made a settlement with the children of the late William James of Belleville, Kans., to the effect that the company will pay them the sum of $13,950 for the death of their parents and two little sisters. The prosecuting attorney of Republic county has filed charges of fourth degree manslaughter against Charles Laird who was running the engine on December 31 last, when the family was killed near Belleville. His trial will be held February 4.
