Capt. John W. Jones, U. S. A., arrived in town Tuesday afternoon, and immediately commenced mustering in the regiment, completing the same Wednesday morning. He will immediately pay the expenses for recruiting the regiment, and the non commissioned officers and privates will receive their $7 per month from the State. The remaining portion of their wages will probably be paid in a few days.
Both the 7th and 5th Regiments will be placed in Gen. Phelps' Brigade. They are liable to leave on very short notice, just as soon as vessels are ready for their embarkation. Their immediate destination is Ship Island.
