THE OLIO

From the Episcopal Recorder.

WHERE IS HEAVEN?

Where, where, is Heaven? It is not where
The soul is merely freed from care,
When sick of life, but not of crime,
It vainly hopes to reach the clime
Where Jesus dwells.

Ah! where is Heaven? It is not where
The joys of earth have any share;
Delights of sense ne'er enter in
That last repose from flesh and sin--
They come not there.

Where, where is Heaven? Oh! it is where,
Borne on the breath of ardent prayer,
Th' immortal spirit's powers expand,
And joyful sees the better land.
Where pilgrims rest.

There, there is Heaven, where Jesus
dwells,
And souls redeemed, with rapture swell,
While they behold the Lamb once slain,
With whom they shall forever reign,
And Heaven is there.

Ah! yes my Lord, where'er thou art,
Whether in bliss, or in my heart,
The joys of both proceed from thee,
They only differ in degree,
And Heaven is there.
