We learn that Hon. James K. Polk, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced himself as a candidate for the office of Governor of Tennessee, for the canvass to take place in August, 1839. Gov. Cannon has declined in favor of Mr. Polk on account of ill health. Mr. Polk is also spoken of, by some loco foco papers, as a candidate for the Vice Presidency of the United States. If his political fate could be decided at the present moment, he would not only not be elected to either of the offices mentioned, but would lose the one he enjoys.
