Full Text

-Gen. Garfield, as a "visiting statesman," at New Orleans, assisted in manufacturing evidence, under color of which enough Democratic votes were thrown out in Louisiana to give the corrupt Returning Board an excuse for counting in the Hayes electors, although the people had declared for Tilden. Garfield afterwards took his seat as a member of the Electoral Commission, and was one of the eight Republicans who refused to examine the returns in order to see who was truly elected. He knew that if the returns should be impartially scrutinized they would show a majority for the Tilden electors in Louisiana.— How can any fair-minded man vote for a candidate who first assisted in falsifying election returns and then, as a judge, accepted the false returns as genuine?

One of the chief agents by which the American people were robbed of the President they elected in 1876 was James A. Garfield. Every vote cast for him now is a vote to condone that unparalleled wrong.
