As the result of a dispute, Taylor Marcum, a white man of Charleston shot and dangerously wounded John Rose, a desperate negro, last Monday. The bullet lodged in the spinal column, from the effects of which physicians say he will die.

Young Marcum ordered the negro out of his place of business for using abusive language. Instead of going, he ran his hand into his trousers pocket and made a pass to shoot, but Marcum was too quick for him and fired. The injured man was taken to the hospital where for three hours medical experts worked over him in an effort to extract the ball, but failed.

Marcum was taken out. He is of a well known family, and bears an excellent reputation. Rose has served a term in the penitentiary.
