THE NEWS IN CHICAGO.

Citizens Celebrating in a Wild Manner Enthusiastic Demonstrations.

CHICAGO, Feb. 24.—The streets of Chicago this afternoon and evening told of the enthusiasm, modest but unmistakable. In the crowds surrounding the newspaper offices and other places where bulletins are displayed, where representatives of all classes of society and such cordial effusiveness, warm hand-shaking, gratified smiles and genuine shouts of joy are not often witnessed anywhere. The unanimity of display was a feature of the occasion. Unusually upon the news of this sort, or rather news from political conventions and the like, there is to be seen a losing side. But here all were winners. Tonight toots of the horn mingled with the booming of cannons and at the clubs, hotels and other resorts, the coming of the world's fair to Chicago is being celebrated with a vim.
