From Vicksburg.

Memphis, Tenn., July 5, via Cairo, 6th.-The ram Lioness, of Col. Ellet's fleet, arrived from Vicksburg last evening at 8 o'clock bringing dispatches, papers and mail from Farragut, Porter and Davis's fleets dated July 2, on the afternoon of which day the ram departed for the North. The more important portions of the dispatches were given by the Captain of the Monarch, arriving on Thursday. The canal across the point of land opposite Vicksburg had been nearly completed. The rebels firing upon the negro workmen but without effect, their range being too high. The rams gathered the negroes from plantations in the vicinity, in all cases giving a government receipt for them. Several thousand were engaged on the work. It was supposed that when the ditch was finished the river would cut a wide channel during the high water and forever leave Vicksburg, what there may be left of it, an inland village, and should the rise now prevailing reach that place the project will prove successful. The bombardment was kept up from the fleets at short intervals. When the Lioness left the Rebel batteries still replied occasionally. Farragut and Porter's fleets were below the works and Com. Davis's was above. The latter arrived on Wednesday, without accident, and commenced work immediately in concert with the Gulf fleets. It is the impression of the officer commanding the naval and military forces that ere this the flag of the Union floats over the works at Vicksburg. It was well known in the Federal fleet that it was the intention to take it by storm on the 4th of July. There is every reason to believe that the place has already fallen. The city had not been destroyed by the bombardment, as previously stated, but has received considerable injury. It appeared that the women and children had been removed, as well as all non-combatant residents. It was reported that the rebel force was about 16,000. The story reached the Federal fleet that several hundred rebels had already been killed by the explosion of shells in their midst. Full particulars will undoubtedly reach here to-morrow.
