Full Text

Severe Accident. Yesterday afternoon, about half past 2 o'clock, as the Frederick train of cars was coming in the city, when opposite the Three Tun Tavern, in Pratt street, a young man named Pell, in attempting to jump off a car, fell and was caught under the wheels, which crushed both legs, dreadfully lacerating and wounding him. He was picked up, and a litter having been obtained from the Infirmary, near by, he was conveyed to his residence, in Green street, where medical aid was immediately in attendance. It is supposed that both legs will have to be amputated, and his recovery is extremely doubtful, the heat of the weather being so much against him. He was a pattern maker by trade, and had come in from Ellicott's Mills. This is another instance of the folly of persons risking their lives in attempting to get off the cars, whilst they are in motion.
