Full Text

Since our article on New York corruption was put in print the developments have been rapid and startling. An injunction against the city authorities was granted by Judge Barnard, restraining them from issuing bonds and from paying any more money to "ring" corporations. Comptroller Connelly who was called on for the vouchers reported that on Sunday night they were abstracted from his office. In the parlance of the street that was altogether "too thin." Nobody credits the story, not even his confederates in crime. Accordingly Mayor Hall published in the papers a request for him to resign. His letter of refusal in effect declares in polite phrase, "We are both in the same boat, and push me if you dare." The ring is demoralized and great and good results are hoped for.
