Full Text
A person who deals much in silver had the curiosity, the other day, to tell out one hundred pounds worth of it, and then to inspect it carefully, and see how much of it was really good; and he found that about ten pounds of it only came from the Tower, and all the rest from the Mint at Birmingham. This demonstrates such a carelessness in government, and is such a disgrace to it as cannot be paralleled in any age or nation. Even of this bad coin there is not one half sufficient for the common uses of the subject.
