Full Text

CONSTANTINOPLE, August 16. The shock on the 5th instant was probably stronger and more sensibly felt along the Propontis, and in the interior parts of the country, than here. According to travellers, Selivree, Rodoto, Gallipoli, and all the intermediate towns and villages, are in a deplorable condition; all the stone buildings, and even the ovens where they bake their bread, being destroyed, or greatly damaged. At Andrianople the shock threw down 7 minarets, several mosques were destroyed, and the walls of the town, and a great number of public baths, were much damaged. When the courier left that place, all the people of property were encamped in gardens. The town of Brusa, in Bithynia, has also received some damage, and the earthquake was felt as far as Aidin.
