Mrs. Gutzlaff.—We see by the N. York papers, that Mrs. Gutzlaff, with five Chinese children, has arrived in that city from Canton. The character of Mrs. Gutzlaff is well known, and highly esteemed, by a vast number of people in this country; and her sacrifices for love of the human kind, entitle her to the grateful respect of all. She brings with her five Chinese girls. These are probably some of those who were wretched, outcast children, exposed to destitution and misery, whom the bounty of certain philanthropic persons, administered by Mrs. G., has redeemed from wretchedness, want, and disease, and reared to fear God, and love man.
Mrs. Gutzlaff has been the means of educating many blind persons. Some blind children she has sent to England, to have them educated in the asylums of that country, and taught in such a way, as will enable them to instruct the blind of their own country, when they shall have returned. We have before us, just drawn from one dusty pigeon hole, where they have been sleepers for two years, some letters from Mrs. G. to a lady of this city, breathing a spirit of enlarged charity and benevolence, and a deep devotion to the interests and comforts of those to whose welfare she has devoted her life.—U.S. Gazette.
