"Sullivan county could furnish a popular candidate and acceptable governor from any of the following: Senator Levi W. Barton of Newport, High Sheriff John P. Chellis of Plainfield, Hon. John M. Glidden of Charlestown, Councillor William E. Tutherly of Claremont, Captain Chester Pike of Cornish, or that Free Soil Veteran, Ruel Durkee, of Croydon."
"That's so, every time!" and the editor, unless he was under an obligation to designate only one in each town, might have dipped a good deal deeper into Claremont. The Statesman thinks, and the thought will no doubt be readily endorsed by the dominant party in the State, that Hon. Onslow Stearns of Concord, is beyond all question and competition the choice of the Republicans of New-Hampshire as their next candidate for Governor.
As the Republicans of New-Hampshire have just emerged from a most glorious campaign, let them now keep their armor bright, and prepare again to move on the enemy's works in the spring with undiminished ranks, and with unshaken confidence in a result equally glorious.
Claremont Advocate.
