Annual Prize Drill Held Saturday Under Auspices of Garde Foch of Putnam
Program Opens With Street Parade -Ends With Dance at V.F.W. Hall
Fifteen drill teams from all parts of New England were in Putnam last Saturday to participate in the annual Prize Drill Competition held here under the auspices of the Garde Foch of Putnam. The competition was staged at the V.F.W. Hall on Main street and was preceded by a street parade in which all the competing teams, together with other visiting units, took part. The line of march passed over most of the principal streets of the city and terminated at the V.F.W. Hall. The competition was watched by a record crowd of local and visiting people that filled the hall to its capacity.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
Girls, drilling, first, Garde Millette of Nashua, N. H.; second, Garde St. Louis de France of Willimansett, Mass.; third, Garde Notre Dame of Fall River; popularity, first, Taunton majorettes; second, Garde St. Rose de Lima of Wauregan. Judges were: Aldor Guertin, Henry Duff and Donat Charron, all of Putnam.
Men: First, New England Champions, Garde St. Anne of Fall River; second, Garde St. Jean Baptise of Taunton; popularity, Sharpshooters No. 1, New Bedford; second, Garde Champlain, Hartford. Judges Aldor Guertin of Putnam Mr. Duby of Taunton and Mr. Center of Fall River.
Armand Magnan was timer for both competitions.
The drill competition was followed by dancing until midnight.
