Many Indians Dying.

Father Dumares, priest in charge of the Santo Domingo Indian parish below the Cochiti pueblo, came in from Santo Domingo and returned this morning with medicines for the sick Indians. He tells a sad story. About sixty Indians in his parish have died of a malady similar to that which devastated the Cochiti pueblo last fall and winter, and many more are very sick, twenty of whom are lying at the point of death. The father says the disease is spreading to the neighboring pueblos and may attack the whites. The Indians do not want a doctor, having declined the offer of Captain Bullis to send one, and will take no medicines from anyone except the priest. The situation is serious. Heroic measures should be adopted to stamp out the disease whatever it may be.
