DENIES DAM EMPLOYES
ARE TREATED UNFAIRLY
WASHINGTON, D. C., Aug. 22. -- A strong denial was made by the Interior department through Acting Secretary Dickenson to Senator Tasker Oddie's criticism of the methods used by contractors on the huge Hoover dam in treatment of employes.
Dickenson informed the Senator that he apparently must have been grossly misinformed as the contractors were not requiring that their men be paid off in script which they later cashed in at a heavy discount. This script was only given in cases where workers wanted credit. The secretary pointed out that the condition of the workers apparently was well as several hundred thousands of dollars had been deposited with the Federal government at its postoffice at Boulder City.
The price charged by the contractor's commissary stores at Boulder City was declared not exorbitant by Dickenson who pointed out that the prices were no higher than those at Las Vegas.
