THROUGH FLOODS AND FLAMES—BISHOP W. D. JOHNSON RAISED $11,219.18 IN SPRING RALLY FOR PAUL QUINN COLLEGE.

Thursday, May 25th, was the beginning of the great commencement program for Paul Quinn College. Annual Musical recital, Sunday, May 28th at 11 a. m., the baccalaureate sermon delivered by Bishop W. D. Johnson to a class of 30 young women and men, 1 for the degree of B. S., 17 for high school diplomas, 12 for grammar school certificates. The sermon to the school of Theology was delivered by Rev. J. M. Johnson of Austin, Texas, at 3:30 p. m. The annual sermon of the college was delivered by Dr. J. H. Clayborne of Little Rock, Ark., Tuesday, May 30th, 8 p. m. Reunion of Alumni Association and public rhetoricals. The annual address was delivered by Dr. C. W. Abington of Dallas, Texas, May 30th at 10 a. m. Annual meeting of the trustee board.
All the members of the board were present except one layman. The trustees entered the business with a will never before. Much helpful business and co-operative determination as was dispatched with the careful rapidity as could be done under the critical period of the times demanding cool and the most deliberate consideration from men who are put over the great program of building a $200,000 new dormitory for girls and an administration building. Every part of this great concern was carefully considered by the members of the board. Every item received careful consideration.

S. Slaughter, P. E., $232.00: Total for the Conference $789.33. North East Texas Conference, Corsicana District, Rev. A. G. Winn, P. E., $362.00; Pittsburgh District, Rev. W. A. Younger, P. The finances were gathered under the most trying scenes and disadvantages ever witnessed in the history of African Methodism, with devastations by constant rains and floods, lynchings and burnings of human beings, but with all these the ministers with the Bishop W. D. Johnson, backed with the faithful laity, who believed that their cause was worthy and right, for all the crimes are from ignorance, and this great monster must learn to respect the laws of God and man, with educations that we are trying to give to the people and God within the heart of all the glorious era of peace and good will toward all men will surely come.
Prof. W. R. Banks, president of the Texas College, C. M. E. church, delivered the most wonderful address to the graduating class. The new building dormitory for girls by a special committee approved by the Trustee Board was named the William Decker Johnson hall. The report of the committee on degrees approved by the Trustee Board granted the following degrees, viz.: Mr. Edward Engram Wheat, B. S.; Rev. J. M. Johnson, B. D., Rev. J. H. Clayborne, A. The Trustee Board and the large concourse of people gathered to witness one of the best Commencement exercises arranged by President Williams and his faculty and the regular assembly voted unanimously their approval of the plan presented for the test rally on African Methodism of Texas two cents for every pound that each African Methodist weighs. Closing of this rally September 12th, 1922, at the next opening of the college. The Texas Christian Recorder was endorsed and given a liberal subscription.
