Wheeling Register

The Clarksburg Telegram contains the following: A sad accident occurred about a mile east of town on Tuesday night. Two young men from Wheeling were visiting friends there, and concluded to have a practice with revolvers. A mark was set up against an unoccupied house, and a ball passed through the mark, thence through a crack into another house within range. On a bed in the latter house lay Mrs. Morris, the lady of the house. The ball struck her in the abdomen and ranged upward. Medical aid was summoned, but as there was internal hemorrhage nothing could be done and she died on Wednesday. A probe was inserted in the wound a distance of nine inches, but failed to find the ball. The parties who did the shooting are disposed to act manly and await any action of the law regarding their terrible mistake.
