Exercises To Be Held Wednesday at State Office Building
Columbia, Jan. 3.--Exercises marking the formal opening of the State office building here, now partly completed, will be held in that structure Wednesday afternoon.
Governor Thomas G. McLeod during whose administration the building was erected, will be master of ceremonies.
After the invocation by the Rev. H. D. Phillips, D. D., rector of Trinity Episcopal Church here, the governor will present the members of the State Sinking Fund Commission, the comptroller general, the attorney general, the state treasurer, chairman of the senate finance committee and the house ways and means committee--Malcolm Miller, secretary of the sinking fund commission; Harold Tatum, of Columbia, architect; W. G. Distler, vice president of the George A. Fuller Company of New York, general contractors for the building; E. H. Heyward, representing W. B. Guarmarin & Co., of Columbia, contractors for heating and plumbing.
After these introductions, the governor will make an address.
The new building, corner of Sumter and Senate streets, is now complete in large part and is occupied by various commissions and departments of government. It was erected at a total cost of approximately $800,000. All of the departments which are to occupy the building are now under its roof except the offices of the supreme court and of the attorney general.
