Full Text

Mr. Anderson's Penikese Island seems to be a white elephant of the most pronounced character. The Natural History School on that island, it seems to be settled, must soon be closed, the location of the school rendering it so expensive that for the same money a school might be conducted anywhere else. Mr. Alexander Agassiz says that a summer school limited to few of the best students in natural history, connected with the college, will probably be established next year (1876); but he does not think that a school of the present scope of Penikese can be run, unless very largely endowed. The trustees are already too far in debt to feel that they can go on with it, as matters now stand.
