THEIR AMBITION
A BIG MAJORITY
(Continued From Fifth Page.)

Fusion ticket then, and the men who went unwillingly on the ticket then knew it, and know it now. At that time there came up practically the only instance where a man in Sedgwick county would not take a renomination when he could get it. James Conly, the fusion county attorney refused to run again. Another indication of the hopelessness of the fusion forces is shown in the circumstance that in one of the legislative districts Charles Schnitzler having been nominated because he wasn't in the convention to prevent the nomination, promptly declined when he heard of it. That nomination was offered to another citizen who declined it.

In fact the present fusion candidates have cut out the usual form of campaign boast and enthusiasm. They make no effort to conceal the extreme difficulty of their campaign. Everywhere they meet in the country formerly enthusiastic Populists who tell them that they have no party and will vote for the man. All the candidates on both tickets will bear witness to the exceedingly vital popularity of President Roosevelt in both city and country and among men of all parties.

Another item of Republican power in the campaign is the strong personnel of the Republican county ticket. Every man on it is active, well known and thoroughly competent for the place to which he aspires. A stronger ticket for actual campaign work, was never put up in the county.

The ambition of the Republicans this year is a big majority. Kansas is Republican again. The state has been Republican for the last four years and no one doubts the election of Mr. Bailey. A big Republican majority means greater prestige for Sedgwick county in the state, a greater share in the state's constructive politics.

It is because of this that the registration is important. A certain unanimity of political sentiment, and a lack of the spirit of contest which exists this year, works in the direction of public apathy, and a neglect of the important matter of registration. It is thought that the new citizen, not yet thoroughly identified with the political life of the community, will be particularly hard to arouse to this duty.

The way the campaign is running the Republican majority in the city will be a record breaker, and together with the revolution in the vote in the country will mark a new epoch in Sedgwick county politics.
