Declaring that a CIO committee headed by "Chuck" Feller and Duke Cunningham have not informed the rank and file of lettuce and carrot shed employees of what growers and shippers are willing to do in wage scales and contracts, R. B. Whitelaw, growers-shippers representative,
Tuesday used an advertisement in the Post-Press to get the news to them to the suggested wage scale if an agreement can be reached with local 78 of the United Canning, Agricultural, Packing, and Allied Workers of America, a CIO affiliate.
A CIO bargaining committee has refused to contact Whitelaw since informed Jan. 6 that he was representing a majority of the shipper-growers.
Whitelaw said he represented a majority of the grower-shippers both in number and acreage and had been delegated by his group to negotiate with the CIO committee about a contract. He said the committee headed by Feller and Cunningham refused to negotiate with him or to contact him for the purpose of negotiations.
He said the grower-shippers he represents have not signed a CIO contract as yet but are willing to do so in spite of their objections to the suggested wage scale if an agreement can be reached with local 78 of the United Cannery, Agricultural, Packing, and Allied Workers of America, a CIO affiliate.
