The Rail Road.

By a letter from the President of the Company, we learn that the cars have commenced running to Scipio and that that place was to be the depot from last Monday week. In about five weeks the cars will run some 7 or 8 miles further north. The company, although not a year organized, have expended rising $500,000 on the road, and have nearly completed 15 miles, part of the grading of which, however, had been previously done by the State. We understand the Company to be still going ahead, and in fine spirits. We learn further that the Engineer is surveying the route from the depot to this city; and that it will be completed in a few weeks. The company are certainly deserving of high credit for their energetic operations, and we believe that, with due encouragement afforded by our citizens, who are peculiarly interested in this work, that its completion may be, at no very distant day, counted on as certain. The contractors, we understand, are desirous of obtaining such articles as Bacon, Flour, and provisions generally; also, horses, cattle, &c. for which they will pay in the Company's scrip, or certificates of stock. Those having a surplus, and wishing to make an investment, could not, perhaps, do it more profitably any other way. At all events, with the lights before them, we feel safe in saying that we believe the concern to be managed in a better manner than those of the old Improvement System; that the energies of this company being directed to one point, the completion of a single work, and that constituting being the end to be attained before the reward of such individual enterprise can be realized, the same spirit will induce them to continue on the same safe and economical manner which has thus far characterized their operations.
