PLANNING FOR THE GOVERNORS

Formal arrangements for the events of Governors' day at the Eastern States exposition on Sunday evening, September 14, and Monday, September 15, were completed at a meeting and dinner of the general Governors' day committee at the Nayasset club last night, and as has been the case in previous years, the city and the exposition management will extend an unusual welcome to the distinguished guests who will attend the opening of the seventh annual fall show.

In former years it has been customary to assign each governor as the guest of a local resident, who acted as host during the executive's stay. This has been changed this year. Instead, all the governors and the members of their official parties will be quartered at the Hotel Kimball. This will not only centralize activities, but it will simplify the work of the several committees.

Gov. Alfred Smith May Come

Attendance of five of the six New England governors is practically assured. Formal acceptances have been received from Gov. Channing H. Cox of Massachusetts, Gov. Charles H. Templeton of Connecticut and Gov. Fred H. Brown of New Hampshire. Gov. Percival F. Baxter of Maine has notified Gov. Cox that he probably will attend and Gov. William S. Flynn informed the chief executive yesterday that he undoubtedly would be present. Gov. Redfield Proctor of Vermont, who visited the exposition last year and who accepted the invitation of the committee again this year, has been obliged to modify his plans because of personal business. He will be unable to take part in the Governors' day program but will delegate an official representative.

There is a possibility that Gov. Alfred E. Smith of New York will be a guest of the Governors'-day committee also, and if not that Lieut.-Gov. George R. Lunn will be named in his stead. R. R. M. Carpenter of Wilmington, Del., will represent that state, and official representatives will be present from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Formal acceptances and the personnel of the visiting groups will be in the hands of the committee within the next few days.

The program as originally announced is unchanged. The governors and members of their staffs will arrive Sunday afternoon. They will be met by representatives of the several local clubs assigned to the respective states. Announcement of these assignments will be forthcoming later. There will be a gathering at the Kimball. Headed by an escort of the state police patrol, 104th Infantry band and 1st and 2d battalions, 104th infantry, followed by governors and guests in automobiles, there will be a parade to the exposition grounds. Arriving at the gates a salute will be fired by the naval reserve. The military escort will precede the governors into the Coliseum arena.

A public reception will follow. For entertainment there will be concerts by the MacDowell Male choir of 60 voices and a concert by the Scotch Highlander band.

WBZ to Broadcast

Monday morning governors and their hosts of the day will breakfast at the Kimball. Breakfast will also be served in the Kimball ballroom for visiting delegations. At 9.30 all will proceed to the grounds, where they will make a tour of the buildings and inspect the exhibits. At 11.45 there will be guests of Gov. Cox and the executive council at luncheon on the grounds of the Massachusetts building. There will be a brief speaking program.

At 1 the governors will attend the light harness races. At 4.30 they will have receptions at their respective state exhibits.

Returning to Springfield they will dress for dinner and in the early evening will return for attendance at the opening session of the horse show, assembling at the Ringside club for the formal program incidental to their introduction. At 8 each governor will deliver a brief address by radio which will be broadcast through WBZ. Their addresses will be a part of the formal program at Mechanics hall, Boston, incidental to the formal opening of New England week.
