WILLIAMSBURG, in Virginia June 9.

An express arrived in town last night from Pittsburgh, with letters to his Excellency the Governor from Captain Connelly, commandant at that Place; giving an Account that the Shawanese Indians have openly declared their Intention of going to War with the white People, to revenge the Loss of some of their Nation who have been killed; that they had scalped one of the Traders, and detained all the rest who were in their Towns: that it was expected the Cherokees would join them, as they had sent a Belt last Fall to the Northern Nations to strike the white People, which had been received by the Shawanese and Wabash Indians; that the Six Nations postponed their Answer till this Spring; and that there is soon to be a grand Council in the lower Shawanese Town, where about seventy Cherokees and a number of other Indians are to attend,---on the subject of going to war with the English.--- Sundry parties are now gone out, by order of Capt. Connelly, for the protection of the inhabitants, and are to assemble at the mouth of Wheeling Creek, in order, if it is judged practicable, to go against the upper Shawanese Town.

The Delawares, who profess to be our friends, informed Capt. Connelly that a party of Shawanese were now gone against the settlement; and it is imagined they will fall upon Green Brier.

All the country about Pittsburgh is in a very ruinous and distressed situation, the inhabitants having chiefly fled, and seated themselves as low as Old Town or Potomac River.
P H I L A D E L P H I A, June 20.

We hear from Fort-Pitt, that the Shawanese have lately murdered 18 white people within 9 Miles of that place, and that several parties of Indians have gone forth to war against the defenceless inhabitants of the frontiers of Virginia & Pennsylvania; that it is supposed all the English traders in the Shawanese towns are killed by the savages, and about 1500 families, settled to the westward of the Alleghany mountains, have deserted their habitations, and fled for sanctuary to the more interior parts of the country; & that the traders at Fort-Pitt are about leaving that place as soon as they can form a party strong enough to venture forth. An Indian war seems inevitable.
