Our village was gratified yesterday by a visit from an elegant military corps (the First Light Infantry) of Providence, commanded by Capt. Rathbone. They proceeded on Monday last, on board a steam-boat from Providence to Somerset. At Somerset they took up their line of march to this town and encamped on Monday night in Wellington. The Light Infantry Company of this town, commanded by Captain Danforth, apprised of their contemplated visit, proceeded early yesterday morning to meet and welcome them to Taunton. Both companies arrived here about 8 o'clock, and troops more finely equipped or more soldierlike in their deportment, are not often witnessed, we apprehend, in any part of New-England. The Rhode-Island Company pitched their tents in a field a short distance from the village, and at 1 o'clock accepted, together with the Taunton Infantry, an invitation to a handsome collation at Attwood's Hotel, provided by some gentlemen here,
Taunton Reporter, of August 3.
[Yesterday the Light Infantry returned to this town through Pawtucket, in fine spirits, having been highly gratified with their excursion.]
