TORPEDO BOAT DESTROYER ASHORE

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 27.—The torpedo boat destroyer Paulding went ashore about 3 o'clock this morning at Lynnhaven inlet. She is supposed to have been driven ashore by the gale of last night, which blew for a time with almost hurricane violence. The Paulding at last reports was resting on the sand and in no danger.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27.—The destroyer Paulding wirelessed the navy department today that during last night's gale in Lynnhaven bay she drifted on a mud bank.
