Full Text
St. Paul, we are told once baptized 3000 people at one time. That was a mighty gain for the young Christian religion. But Bishop Edward Charles Locke, who recently returned from China, tells of baptizing no less than 3,200 soldiers of General Feng's army on one occasion. The Bishop had 25 assistants and passed through the serried ranks sprinkling the sacred water. Never since the days of the early missionaries in the primeval forests of Gaul and Germania has any ceremony like that been performed. Bishop Locke's work on that day is a glorious contribution to the history of Christian civilization in China.
