Tallahassee District Pastors' Conference Held Havana Tues.

The Pastors' Conference of the Tallahassee District met in Havana Tuesday forenoon. After the devotional exercise, led by Rev. M. F. Dukes of the Leon charge, the presiding elder called the conference to order.

The presiding elder explained "why we are here." The name of Rev. A. G. Cox, of Chattahoochee, was called and he discussed the "Pastor's Mission."

The name of Rev. D. L. Jones, of the Waukeenah charge, was called. He being absent the subject assigned to him, "The Pastor's Influence," was discussed by several pastors and laymen. Mr. Brooks, a layman, pointed out that a pastor's influence should extend beyond the membership of his charge.

"The Pastor's Prayer Life" was discussed by Rev. J. E. Skipper, of the Carrabelle charge. He pointed out the fact that it had been the men of great prayer life that really lead the church. He compared the pastor's prayer life to a dynamo.

Rev. E. Watt Smith, of the Tallahassee church, discussed "The Pastor and a Missionary Church." He showed that the success of the church depends largely on the aim or goal the pastor sets for the church.

After a brief address on evangelism, by the presiding elder, it was moved that 500 members on profession of faith be set as the goal for this year.

B. W. Partridge, a layman of Tallahassee, presented the "Pastor and the Lay Activities." He brought out the idea that the responsibility is mutual between the pastor and the laymen. He urged that living conditions of the preachers be improved by the laymen. He offered as a solution of our financial problems "tithing."

Rev. H. W. Tyler, of the Hinson charge, brought to our attention "Our Abandoned Country Church." He pointed out that it is from the rural church that the most of our leaders and ministers have come. That it is the training field of our great church and that the abandoned church is abandoning training ground, which means a decrease in membership.

Several of the ministers offered consolidation as a solution of the problem. The idea was finally reached that trained leadership for these churches is the thing that is needed.

The hour set for lunch having arrived, we adjourned until 1:45. After a fine meal given by the women of the missionary society, we again assembled. Rev. Wilton Wyatt, of the Greensboro charge, led the devotion. Brother Blake, of Monticello, led the prayer.

Mrs. O. O. Mickler, of Tallahassee, presented "Our Women's Work." She said, "There are 69 churches and only 23 missionary societies in the district." Her report was one that showed improvement in the work. She urged that tithing be stressed even more than it has been before.

A resolution of thanks was offered as follows: Resolved that we, the laymen and pastors of the Tallahassee district, do express our thanks to the pastor, women's missionary society and the people of Havana, for their splendid hospitality, and especially do we appreciate the beautiful flowers so artistically arranged and the soul stirring songs rendered and the good dinner so bountifully served. And that we thank the presiding elder for the splendid program.

Signed--C. W. White, E. Watt Smith, T. J. Brooks, B. W. Partridge.

Rev. C. W. White, of Quincy, spoke on "Our Benevolences." Rev. White showed that a process of education is needed in gathering these claims.

It was moved by A. G. Cox and seconded by C. W. White that we lay ourselves on the altar in faith and that we do our utmost to raise all our claims in full in the Tallahassee district this year. The motion was carried unanimously. The vote was taken by standing.

The presiding elder named E. Watt Smith, B. W. Partridge and C. W. White as a committee to work together with the presiding elder to form a program to be used in the district for the collection of the claims.

Rev. W. A. Fisher, of the Madison charge, outlined for us "Our Young People's Work," in a few well chosen words.

Our elder announced that those having money for the claims would still send them to H. L. Phifer, Gainesville, Fla.

Rev. Withers Blake presented "Our District Sunday School Objectives," and Brother J. L. Born, of Havana, presented the superannuate work.

Rev. L. E. Wright, of Perry, discussed the subject, "Tallahassee District 100 Percent."

He said "The district should be 100 percent spiritual" that this would be the solution of all our problems.

Rev. Wright also urged that we again make the Tallahassee district 100 percent in Golden Cross, as we did last year.

The presiding elder announced that on August 18 we would observe "Loyalty Week" and on that date try to raise 25 percent of the assessments.
