COLLEGE OPENS TUESDAY MORNING

I. I. & C. BEGINS THIRTY-FIFTH ANNUAL SESSION TUESDAY MORNING.

BIG ATTENDANCE Is Expected As Record Number Of Reservations Have Been Made—Many Changes In Faculty.

The thirty-fifth annual session of the Mississippi Industrial Institute and College will be inaugurated Tuesday morning. The day marks the formal opening of the 1919-20 session and from all indications the attendance this year will exceed that of any previous session.

Many years ago reservations had been made that all but exceeded the accommodations of the dormitories. A new rule which went into effect this year requires that advance reservations must be made for dormitory accommodations so as to check an over-matriculation and maximum reservations have already been made.

Officials of the institution are putting forth every effort to have things in ship shape for the students when they begin to pour in Monday and Tuesday. The flow of students from all sections of Mississippi will begin Tuesday on the afternoon and evening trains, and a steady stream will come in for two or three days. Secretary King has made arrangements this year that will relieve the girls of the task of attending to the transfer of their baggage. He has contracted with a local transfer company to handle their baggage at 15 cents a piece, and the students will leave their baggage checks at the secretary's office.

President Whitfield is very optimistic over the prospects for the coming session. While some trouble has been encountered in filling the large number of vacancies in the faculty, all has worked out satisfactorily and the session opens Tuesday with a full list of teachers in all departments.

The most notable change in the official staff of the college this year is that of housekeeper. Mrs. M. E. Shattuck, who has been head of this department for more than twenty years resigned during the summer months and she will be succeeded by Mrs. L. M. Taliaferro. Miss Carroll will be succeeded by Mrs. Kathleen Yerger as superintendent of Shattuck Hall.

Following is a list of the new teachers:

Mrs. A. R. Halley, Assistant in English; Miss Martha Ann Sims, Asst. in English; Miss Hazel K. Dutt, Asst. in English; Miss Leslie Harris, Asst. in English; Miss Mary Lou Peyton, Asst. in English; Miss Mildred Hoskins, Asst. in English; Miss Claire Bourg, Asst. in French; Miss Antionette Fleury, Asst. in French; Miss Isabel Hopkins, Asst. in Spanish; Mr. Alfred Sherwood, Professor of Physics; Miss Rogers, Asst. in Hygiene; Miss Ruby Easterling, Asst. in Chemistry; Miss Rosa Wyatt, Asst. in Education; Mrs. Kathleen Yerger, Superintendent of Shattuck Hall; Miss Geraldine Bullock, Asst. in Home Economics; Miss S. Frances Sale, Home Economics; Miss Mattie Carter, Asst. in Physical Education; Miss Harriet Howell, Asst. in Music; Miss Augusta Sykes, Asst. Librarian; Mrs. L. M. Taliaferro, Housekeeper.
