A NATION WIDE VOTE POLL

WILSON AGAIN LEADS IN HERALD'S NATION WIDE POLL.

New York, Oct. 18. — The nationwide poll now being conducted by the New York Herald, Cincinnati Enquirer, Chicago Record-Herald, St. Louis Republic, and Los Angeles Times, continues to show that Governor Wilson is leading all other candidates in the country.

For the past three weeks this nationwide poll has been under way and the end of each week the results show Governor Wilson with a safe majority. So far 154,771 votes have been cast. Of these Governor Wilson has received 65,168. Roosevelt 46,316, and Taft 33,759.

The votes have been taken in 24 states and show a republican loss from 1908 of 25,299 and a net democratic gain of 10,022, and a net socialist gain of 1,500.

Taft has lost 18,063 votes to the Third Termer and 9,322 to Wilson. Roosevelt has also secured 503 Socialist votes from Debs.

The poll indicates that Utah is the only state in which Taft has a fair chance of winning. California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado are safely for Wilson.

The Herald states in its review that Governor Wilson is still well in the lead of both his rivals and going strong. The Herald continues:

"Conditions have changed but slightly since the last installment of the Herald's review was published a week ago. It test ballots and reports of trained political observers are to be accepted as an indication, Governor Wilson is easily the favorite.

"The Third Term movement has to all appearances touched its highest point. The best indications obtainable at this time are, however, that the Third Term nominee is running second and the president third.

"Democrats are satisfied that nothing can prevent the election of Governor Wilson. The campaign managers declare they will carry nearly every state in the country.

"In the Middle West there have been 39,861 votes taken. Governor Wilson received 15,683 of these; Roosevelt 12,235 and Taft 8,081. These votes were cast in the state of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

"In Indiana, according to the Herald's reports, Wilson appears certain to carry the state. Wisconsin is leaning strongly towards New Jersey's governor and Minnesota seems for him, with the president and Roosevelt running neck and neck for third place. Iowa promises to go for Wilson.

"Of the 30 states in which test ballots have been taken, Governor Wilson has 23 states to his credit, according to the Herald's poll. Roosevelt stood first in 5 and the president in 2."

In New England, Governor Wilson is surprising the old line republicans, as well as the friends of the Third Term candidate. New Jersey is safely in the democratic column; while in Maryland the republicans are so badly divided that that state is out of the disputed column. In West Virginia Governor Wilson is leading both Taft and Roosevelt by two to one in many of the counties.

The Herald's review indicates that Minnesota will go for Wilson by 60,000. In Ohio the prediction of Governor Wilson's majority runs from 100,000 to 200,000.
