MOTOR BOAT RAMS CANOE

Crowd Sees Man Drowned After Deliberate Attack.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn., May 16.—Deliberately run down by a motor boat while he was in a canoe in the Pequonnock River this afternoon, Ralph Bartlett, an adjuster for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, was drowned. His companion, George Fulton, seized the rail of the motor boat, was beaten off, but seized it again and held on while from the shores and the bridge many persons set out to find the police.

C. E. Demmons, captain of the schooner Brigadier of Rockland, Me., and his first mate, Oliver Houston, were later arrested after a chase on the river by other motor boats and held on charges of manslaughter and intoxication.
