Full Text

PHILADELPHIA. Feb. 16.

A judicious writer in the New-York Argus says: The letters of Hortensius may be from the pen of Curtius; or, if Curtius is not Hortensius, they are contemporaries in virtue and talents. Nothing can exceed the exultation of an honest heart, on the reading of such letters, and the man that could stigmatize the authors with base designs must be a monster soul indeed."

While we deplore the loss of that all accomplished young man whose letters under the signature of Curtius have exalted the classical character of our country and that he is no more; we with pleasure announce that the letters of Hortensius are not the productions of the same pen, though distinguished no less by simple elegance and lucid tho' precise demonstration—we have the pleasure to add, that the author of the Letters of Hortensius "lives a prosperous gentleman" in his native State of Virginia.
