Full Text

It is stated by the Portsmouth Palladium that the Secretary of the Navy has recently paid Mr. Newton (the representative in Congress from that district, and a thorough going administration man,) nine thousand dollars--being one hundred and fifty dollars an acre--for sixty acres of land, which was wanted as a site for a naval hospital. The Editor of that paper further remarks, that "A gentleman who owns a slip adjoining that purchased by government, authorizes us to say, that although his land is far more valuable than that at present owned by government, and for which $150 per acre was given, he will be glad to drive a bargain with the executive at $15."--Such a transaction needs only to be made known; comment is unnecessary.
